Kanna has over 20 years of experience in investment banking, commercial banking and business consultancy.

She joined BHP in 2025, from bp Japan where she was the Head of Low Carbon Business Development. Her primary role was to develop relationships and originate low carbon business opportunities in Japan, in hydrogen & ammonia, CCS, renewables, carbon credit and power trading.

Prior to that she was Managing Director of Macquarie Capital Japan where she developed a renewables and data centre development business from 2013 to 2023 as the head of private capital market team which was responsible for partnership formation with Japanese companies for Macquarie Capital’s global businesses.

Kanna started her career as a business consultant at BaringPoint (currently PwC) and worked as an Assistant Manager Emerging Market Corporate Finance for Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation based in London. She was also an executive council member of the Australia and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan and co-chair of the Future Leaders Program for the Japan Australia Business Cooperation Committee (AJBCC).

Kanna has a Bachelor of Arts from Waseda University in Tokyo and a master’s in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science in the UK.
